The Keypup platform has two core concepts when it comes to managing the relationship between data and users:

  • Apps: these are third-party systems - e.g. GitHub, JIRA etc. - that you connect to the platform on behalf of your team. Once you connect an app and enable some projects, data will be imported into your Keypup team account and all users setup on your Keypup team will be able to start viewing these data.

  • Identities: they tell us who you are in each app. Knowing who you are in each connected app is critical for us to generate personalized reports such as the Priority inbox. Without identities we wouldn't be able to know which items are assigned to you in GitHub for example. Identities are also used to identify yourself in third-party apps when your perform remote actions from the Keypup platform such as merging a pull request from the Review & Merge board.

When you connect an app your identity is automatically linked to your Keypup profile, so you don't need to worry about that.

Linking identities is more important for users that you invite to your company on Keypup. Don't worry though, we'll remind them to connect missing identities when they login.

E.g.

  1. You sign-up to Keypup and select "Login with GitHub". The GitHub app will automatically be added to your team and your GitHub identity will be linked to your Keypup profile.

  2. Then you decide to connect JIRA from the User Profile > Apps & Projects screen. The JIRA app will be added to your team and your JIRA identity will be automatically linked to your Keypup profile.

  3. Then you invite John Doe to join your team on Keypup.

  4. John Doe accepts the invite and logs in via GitHub. John's GitHub identity is automatically linked to Keypup upon login.

  5. At this point we know who John is in GitHub but we don't know who he is in JIRA. This means that we can't really tailor his Priority inbox using JIRA items.

  6. To solve this John can go to User Profile > Apps & Projects > Identities and connect his JIRA identity to let us know who he is in JIRA (see below).

> Where to manage identities?

You can link or unlink identities by going to User Profile > Apps & Projects > Identities.

Simply click Link or Unlink to update the list of identities linked to your profile.
